President Michel Aoun confirmed that “Lebanon attaches great importance to the agricultural sector because it is an essential part of the production economy after having been dependent for years on the rentier economy”.
The statement came during his meeting at Baabda Palace with the new representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FOA) in Lebanon, Noura Orabeh Haddad, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture by interim, Abbas Hajj Hassan.
President Aoun stressed that “land is the most important thing, and that stability in life comes from the land”, stressing that “there must be attention to securing wheat in light of the global crisis which resulted from the Ukrainian-Russian war”.
He also requested assistance from the FAO to facilitate the export of agricultural and fruit production from Lebanon under the current difficult conditions.
For his part, Haddad draws attention to the fact that some of the priorities of the FAO will be presented and culminated in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, such as the development of an integrated plan to help Lebanon achieve security eating.
She did not view the food sector as a separate sector, but rather encompassing food systems from production to consumption, stressing the importance of defining policies and supporting them to achieve food security and development goals. sustainable.
